# Configuring Data Sources
source: https://docs.chalk.ai/docs/configuring-data-sources

## Configure connections between Chalk and your data sources using the Chalk dashboard.

Chalk connects to a variety of data sources, so you can call external APIs, query production
databases, and more directly from Chalk.

You can configure data sources through the data source API or through the Chalk dashboard.
This page covers the dashboard.

### Adding data sources through the dashboard

Configure connections in the Chalk dashboard under Integrations > Data sources. Select Add data source,
choose a data source type, and fill in the connection information, such as credentials and host details.
The Integrations section lists the supported data sources.

### Example: adding a Kinesis data source

This example connects Amazon Kinesis to Chalk as a streaming data source.
After you select Kinesis as the data source type, fill in the connection information and the workload role that needs
permission to access your stream.

Before you save, select Test connection to check that the configuration works. Chalk attempts to connect to your
data source with the information you provided and reports any issues. To also see sample messages from a Kinesis stream,
select Preview test message before you test. A successful test lists the messages on the Messages tab:

### Using your data source

After you add a data source and test the connection, you can reference it in your resolvers. The
Integrations section and the page for your data source include examples.
