Functions and Scaling Groups
Enable dataplane Redis and add the function-queue service to set up the function queue on your Chalk cluster.
This page sets up the function queue on your own Chalk cluster. The function queue is optional; skip this section if you don’t need it.
The function queue requires a dataplane Redis instance. In the team navigation click on Clusters, select the cluster, and open the Settings tab. Under Dataplane Redis, set the Redis mode to Managed. CPU and memory can be adjusted under Advanced if needed; the defaults are 1 CPU and 10Gi memory. Click Save.
Functions deployed before you enable dataplane Redis cannot take .defer(...) calls. After you
enable it, deploy each of those functions again by
running its script. The new version supports .defer(...).
In the environment sidebar, go to Infrastructure → Resource Configuration and add
a function-queue service entry in the Default resource group. A reasonable starting configuration
would be:
| Resource | Value |
|---|---|
| CPU | 1 |
| Memory | 1Gi |
| Replicas | 1 |
This section covers errors from calls that use the function queue.
.defer(...) fails with “deployed without async support”The call fails with:
This function was deployed without async support. Configure dataplane Redis and deploy a new function version.
The function’s current version was deployed before dataplane Redis was enabled. Enable dataplane Redis, then deploy the function again. In the dashboard, Run Async is unavailable for that version and shows the same message.
